Today we are going to explore video game creation using a map editor for the game Teeworlds.
Teeworlds is a free multiplayer online game I have put on our schools shared X drive for all to play.
The goal today is to learn how to use the map editor to understand how video games are created.
Step 1. Launch the game Teeworlds so that you know what the game is like, lets all join in on the map that Mr. Hurst created.
Launch the game here: My Computer > Lane on 'ppsfils.ad.ppsnet....' > Media > Games > Teeworlds
He will give you a server IP address to connect to.
10.181.9.208
Step 2. Once we have an understanding of how the gameplay and maps relate lets create our own.
Disconnect and in the game menu press the key combination CTRL + SHIFT + E.
This loads the editor which looks like this.
Mr. Hurst will show you the basics of how to use this editor on the projector. The main thing to know is the game layer, and the skin layers. *skin in the sense means the visuals you see in the game.
You can either file > load an existing map and make significant changes (RECOMMENDED), or if you feel daring build your own level from scratch (HARD).
Step 3. Once you have finished with your level you need to save it as and call it your name. THEN locate the map file and upload it to me. - Mr Hurst can put your map on the server and we can all play it, if you want.
Locate the file and copy it to your Y drive or Desktop (place easy to get to).
The original file will be here:
My computer > Local Disk (C) > Documents and Settings > YOUR LOGIN > Application Data > Tee Worlds > Maps
*Application data is a hidden folder, once you get to the folder of your login, in the address bar type the folder \application data
password: lane
http://dropitto.me/lane <- click this to upload completed file.
