the search story should tell about school, middle school, lane, learning, etc.
Put it together at youtube.com/searchstories
once you have put the 6 different searches that make up the story,
then put the final 7th that ends the story, then click next.
Choose some music, if you do not have headphones, listen to the various music selections on Mr. Hursts computer.
Show Mr. Hurst the finished story and he will then login so you can upload and finish the project.

Bubbl.us Brainstorming
Today we are going to learn how to use a brainstorming web application called bubbl.us.
The overall idea is to brainstorm and visually
pull the ideas out of your head and then once they are out start organizing.
WHAT ARE WE MIND MAPPING?
Candy, what candy do you like?
Map the candies you like and organizing them in a way that makes sense to you.
You could organize: by candy color,
candy types (sour, gummy, soft, hard, chocolate, fruit etc.)
Candy brands, sizes, flavors, etc.
You need to have at least 20 different candies mapped out.
If you want to you are welcome to use the 2.0 beta (it's nicer).
ALSO and don't forget, map a few candies that you DON'T like, on the same map but different bubbles.
I'm sure you can think of a FEW that you would rather switched to a tasty peanut butter M&M than the nasty
grape flavored taffy, okay so thats a personal example, I'm sure you can think of your own.
Feel free to research candies online to refresh your memory, great websites include:
candy.com, candywarehouse.com, candiesdirect.com.
TO GET STARTED, Visit the link, bubbl.us and then click start brainstorming.
If you want to SAVE your mind map so you can edit it again
ask Mr. Hurst for a login or create your own account.
TO FINISH so that you can be done and enjoy some free computer time.
Down in the bottom right is a "MENU" click Menu > Export.
Radial button Image and change it to PNG.
Then click OK
Save the downloaded image to your Y drive folder.

Screencast-O-Matic
Today we are going to learn about how to make a screencast.
What a screencast is, is a video of your computer screen that you can then show others
how to do something.
First brainstorm what you want to show others how to do, then do and share it.
We will use Screen-cast-o-matic.

SEARCH | HCRAES (reverse)
Today we will learn about reverse searches.
Basically what it is all about is once you have already found something and you want to know where it also is, or more information about it, that's what a reverse lookup is.
So we will try it on two different things, first we will do it on a picture.
First find a picture on the Internet, possibly something that you will obviously recognize but more obscure than a company logo or the like.
Then go to the website TinEye.com
Paste the URL, or if you downloaded the image upload it to TinEye and see what the results are...
Then the second type of reverse search we will do is type a land line phone number into google.com it will (if it's listed) do a reverse search for more information on that phone number like the owner of it, address it's registered to, etc.
Mobile phones usually do not work.
Try grandparents numbers, parents numbers, people that still have land lines (feel free to pull out your mobile phones to look in your address book) because nobody remembers phone numbers anymore...

Active Desktop Backgrounds
Today we are going to make your own active desktop wallpaper,
you can if you so choose share it with the entire Lane community.
If you do not want to do this let me know.
First view the examples, see how they fade into the blue on the right, yours needs to do that too.
THEN - Download this image, right click on the file and "open with GIMP" -
if that doesn't work open the application GIMP and drag the file into GIMP.
As you need help with GIMP I will float around and assist,
consider a theme and build 3-5 images surrounding that theme together in a collage.

Color
Today we will learn about color, how one color compliments other colors,
how the different shades, hues, and other color related things play into how we see and use it.
We will visit this website and explore several aspects of understanding color.
-choose a color, then set it to complimentary, see it's compliment color, also its triad color etc.
If you would like to make a color theme for everyone to share and see, you need to sign up, I am not requiring this, but if you want to, it's fun.

How it works
Tilt Shift Photography
You will learn how to make a post-processing tilt shift photograph which basically means a picture of a real thing that "looks" like it's a miniature model.
This assignment must:
-Have a tilt shift image of a place of residence (your house, your uncle freds house, your grandpas house, apartment, condo etc, keep it personal not some random celebrity).
-Have a tilt shift image of a school (grade school, middle school, high school, college, your favorite one even if you havn't yet attendend).
-Have a tilt shift image of a place of interest / attraction (amusement park, favorite hotel / park / mall, famous building, etc).
-Images must be captured from maps.live.com birds eye view.
-Images must be captured and cropped in GIMP.
-Tilt shift images can be made in GIMP or much easier at tiltshiftmaker.com.
The assignment:
The goal is to learn how to make a miniature model scene of familar places which is called tilt shift photography. The basic principal is that by blurring the the viewer's gaze may be directed to parts of the image the photographer wishes to emphasize. And this direction causes the lifesized objects appear to be miniature in the photograph.

Timeline 1 day:
Day 1: Intro to project, begin searching on a map, capturing images turning them into tilt shift images.
If needed we can turn this into a 2 day long assignment, but it should be fine to complete in one day.
STEP 1: Find the picture.
First go to bing.com/maps then search for the location of interest, start with your house so put your full address don't forget the city and state. Then click on the button "birds eye", on the left you have navigation to zoom out and in and to rotate from four different angles.
Once the view looks good make sure and clear the screen of all access clutter so make the minimap smaller, make the search smaller, make the navigation smaller, and to get maximized size in the browser click "view" then "fullscreen".
Remember you need 3 different locations: 1 house, 1 educational facility, 1 popular attraction / place of interest.
Ideas for popular attractions:
Pittock Mansion
Oaks Park
World Forestry Center
OMSI
Oregon State Capitol
Disneyland
Poineer Courthouse Square
Disneyworld
Eiffle Tower, France
Colossem Rome
RMS Queen Mary
Sydney Opera House
Las Vegas
Lisbon, Portugal
Basilica di San Pietro, Vatica

Navy Pier
Temple Square
Waikiki Beach
Myrtle beach
Oregon Zoo
Mount Rushmore
Bosque de la Alhambra, Granada, Spain
Gravensteen
Guimaraes Castle
STEP 2: Capturing the image (say cheese).
In most all computers you have the abililty to take a snapshot of whatever the screen displays by pressing the "print scrn" key which is to the right of the "f12" key in the top right of the keyboard.
Once it has taken the picture it has the picture in the clipboard you need to put (paste) the picture into an image editing program (like GIMP).
Then crop the image to just the selected section of the screen that you wish to keep. To crop in GIMP use the rectangle selection tool and select the portion you wish to keep then click "image" then "crop to selection".
Save the image to your folder as "tiltshift.jpg".
This is another more explained version of how to do the same thing:
STEP 3: Make it at tiltshiftmaker.com
Follow the directions provided on it's website.
Remember to "get full size" and then "click here to download" and save the file to your Y drive.
EXAMPLES - This is my neighborhood guess which is my house, also, where I went to college at Biola University, and the Statue of Liberty.
