Tic Tac Toe Redesign



First in the upper right click next, to see what other students have made.

You are going to redesign your own tic tac toe online game.

Step 1.
Download this zipped file and extract it.
tictac.zip
Right ClickClick, choose option SAVE.
locate file, right click > extract here.


Step 2.
Find FOUR images, try to find something that would oppose another thing, or relate to another thing.


One for you
One for your opponent
One for the nothing before you start
One background for your game.
Save the images to your home folder, or desktop.







Step 3.
Launch the program / application GIMP (Start > Programs> GIMP)
Edit the images to fit the correct sizes, feel free to use the provided nothing.xcf and back.xcf to get the sizes and shapes correct.

100px by 100px for the small three.
600px by 600px for the background.


Make sure to save as the correct file names.

The easiest way to do this is simply open the file, put your image in place of it and re-save the file.

Step 4. 
Edit the code
The opponent still says Quazi, we simply need to do a "find and replace" for the word Quazi and replace it with whatever opponent name you want.


4.1 - Right click on the file tictacquazi.htm
4.2 - choose open with > notepad
4.3 - Edit > Replace4.4 - Find Quazi,   replace with **Your opponents name**
Save and close

Open with browser, try out the game.


Step 5.
Upload a zipped folder of it, to dropbox.using dropitto.me.

Put all files into a folder, name the folder your name.

Right click on the folder > send to > compressed (zipped) folder.

Spring Wallpaper



Today we are going to be customizing some wallpaper for Lane's active desktop.

Either (weather allowing) I will provide a digital camera and you can go take a picture around school that shows spring is coming.

OR, search online for spring wallpapers and then customize it by putting the Lane Middle School logo, or motto INTEGRATED into the picture.

Use GIMP to combine the logo, or motto into the picture.
Mr. Hurst will demonstrate various tools and ways to use GIMP.

Once you are completed with your wallpaper SAVE it as yourname.jpg from GIMP, in your Y drive, then upload it to Dropbox using dropitto.me.

Initial Names in 3D


First Steps:
Launch the program Inkscape.


First create and edit your name in your choice of fonts, with the first letter being large and the remaining letters small and fitting on top of the first.
SELECT BOTH OBJECTS (by drag selecting both, OR by holding SHIFT and clicking on both)
Next click Path > Difference.

File Save, or save a copy, or save as, whichever is first and works for you to save the file to your Y drive.
Make sure to rename the file you are saving your name.

Next Steps:
Launch the program Blender.


Delete the cube, by right clicking on it
to select it, then pressing the delete key.
File > Import > Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg)
Locate and import your file that you just saved from Inkscape, should be in your Y drive, should be renamed to your name.
Click Origin > Origin to Geometry
Click View > Camera
Use the mouse and keyboard keys G to grab and move, S to scale to position your name in front of the camera.

Use mouse wheel to scroll over to "object data" the two dots and curved line icon
Then on the Geometry : Ex: put either .1 or .2 or similar.

Render by pressing the keyboard key F12

Then Save the image by pressing the keyboard key F3
SAVE TO YOUR Y DRIVE.

IF YOU WANT TO DO EXTRA TO MAKE IT LOOK DIFFERENT...
Feel free to add a background mesh plane and change material colors, add various lighting and rotate the name around to get it to look how you want. Feel free to ask and describe what you image it looking like and Mr. Hurst can help.

Hardware

Hardware in relation to computers means the physical parts of a computer.

First thing we are going to do is go experiment with taking apart and seeing a taken apart laptop.


FIRST DO THIS ONE: Activity - add your own notes identifying where things are on the six computers. ADD TWO LABELS EACH, put your name so to get the credit for the correct label.


LAST DO THIS ONE: Hardware questions, answer these to earn your free time.

Vector Valentine - Luscious Layers





You will learn how to make a heart shape and then add depth and layers to make it pretty.

The assignment:
The goal of this assignment is to make a digital valentine with a vector art designing application called Inkscape, you will get some practice using a computer graphics program designing something from scratch. Furthermore it is a test on how well you as a student to become more independent and see if you can read and follow tutorials without the instructor holding your hand through each step.

To get started launch the application Inkscape.(hint: click the Start button to launch applications)
Document Setup
Step 1: Click File > Document Properties
Step 2: Set Width 800px by Height 800px.
Step 3: Check "border ontop of drawing" Then close the document properties window.
Step 4: Click File > Save As - name the file valentine
Basic Heart Shape from Circle Steps
Step 1: Use this visual tutorial and follow through to make a heart shape.
Next duplicate (ctrl + d) or edit duplicate the heart shape and leave it in place but change the fill or stroke to various patterns, gradients, colors and set the opacity of the various layers so it looks good.

Have at least 4 layers,
1=pattern
1=linear gradient
1=color
1=second gradient, or second pattern, try radial gradient...

Notes to remember - the more layers with duplicating shapes and adding gradients or patterns the more advanced and fancy it will look.



Adding text and putting it on a path steps
Step 1: Use this visual tutorial and follow through to make text on a path.
Once you are completed with your design and have all the requirements are met, you will need to save the drawing.svg as your name.svg in your Y drive, then upload it to Dropbox using dropitto.me.

If you want to send this as a finished picture file to someone you are encouraged to do so but not required.

Export as bitmap
Step 1: In Inkscape click File > Export Bitmap
Step 2: Click for export area "selection" for Bitmap size "90 dpi" (the width and height will follow) for filename "Browse and designate where you want the file and what you want it to be named. Then click Export.
Sending the image as an Email Attatchment
Step 1: Go to your email and compose an new email.
Step 2: Look for and then click the word or symbol attatchment(s). the symbol usually looks like a paperclip.
Step 3: browse for the image file name should be "valentine.png" unless you saved and exported it as something else.
